Eligibility Criteria for Medicine Courses

Eligibility Criteria for UG Medicine Courses

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12/Higher Secondary/Pre-University qualifying examination with Science subjects i.e. PhysicsChemistry and Zoology/Botany.

  • They also must have studied English as the main subject for their qualifying examination.

  • Moreover, candidates also need to fulfil the age limit criteria i.e. they must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admissions.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Medicine Courses

  • Candidates should have an MBBS/BDS/allied UG degree from a recognised medical college.

  • They must have completed a compulsory internship at a recognised hospital or health centre.

Admission Process for Medicine Courses

Eligible candidates will have to appear for the entrance exams for Medicine courses. After qualifying for the entrance exam, candidates will have to appear for the counselling process wherein they will have to get the important documents verified followed by which seat/s in a medical college will be allotted. Candidates will have to pay the admission fee and report to the allotted college for the final admission process.

Medicine UG Course Admission – NEET is the only entrance exam for admission to undergraduate Medicine courses.

Medicine PG Course Admission – There are a number of Medicine PG entrance exams conducted for the various courses:

  • NEET PG - This exam is conducted for providing admission to various MD (Doctor of Medicine)/ MS (Master of Surgery) and PG Diploma courses across the country. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) conducts the exam once a year in computer-based mode.

  • INI CET - Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test or INI CET is conducted by AIIMS Delhi for admission to PG medical courses such as Masters of Surgery (MS), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), Doctorate of Medicine (DM), and Master of Chirurgiae (MCh).

  • NEET MDS - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery abbreviated as NEET MDS is an entrance exam conducted by NBE for providing admissions to all the postgraduate dental courses offered by the institutions in India.

  • NEET SS - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Super Speciality Courses) is conducted by the National Board of Education for admission to various DM/ MCh courses. 

  • AIAPGET - All India AYUSH Postgraduate Entrance Test is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admissions to the postgraduate courses in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy

So what I would like to suggest...Private medical colleges will not give any fee concession depending on the marks that you earned in 12th. They will allow the seat depending on your entrance exam and they might give any fee concession depending on the rank that you perceived in that entrance exam. So what I would like to suggest is that it is not compulsory to get 90/100 in your 12 state exams, but it would be great if you maintain a decent score.
