A sub-set of the Mass Communication field, Journalism requires aspirants to gather, create, evaluate, and finally present news or other information to the audience. Unlike earlier times, the reach of this field isn’t limited to print media alone and so, today a journalist can work at firms dealing with newspapers, magazines, radio, television and even the worldwide web. Aspirants can pursue a course in Journalism right after their Class 12 or even consider specialising in this field at the graduation level. After pursuing a course in Journalism, one can become a journalist.

Some popular UG level courses in Journalism include a BA in Journalism, BA in Journalism and Mass Communication, BA in Hindu Journalism, BA in Film, Television and New Media Production and the likes. On the other hand, popular courses one can study at the PG level are MA Journalism, MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, Post Graduate Diploma in Communication and Journalism etc.

Journalism Eligibility Criteria

Apart from the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, many colleges even specify that candidates will be considered for admission if they score at least 75% in English/Hindi depending on the medium in which they want to pursue the course.

In order to pursue a Journalism course at the PG level candidates should have completed their graduation degree with passing marks. Although candidates from any stream can apply for a PG level course but most popular colleges prefer Journalism graduates for a PG level course in this field.

Entrance Exams for Journalism

Candidates can secure admission in Journalism courses either on the basis of merit or through an entrance test. However, these days most of the popular Journalism colleges conduct an entrance exam to shortlist candidates for admission. These entrance tests are often followed by a personal interview round which students need to clear in order to secure admission in the course of their choice. Typically a Journalism entrance test consists of three to four sections which test the candidate’s comprehension, logical reasoning, general awareness and media aptitude. Some popular Journalism entrance exams that candidates should consider giving are:
