Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the list of applicants rejected for CDS I 2022 exam due to non-payment of application fees. Appeal against the rejection if any can be made within 10 days along with the document evidence by speed post or by hand to the respective Under Secretaries, UPSC. Candidates can appeal against such rejection till February 6, 2022.

CDS I 2022 application form withdrawal window was open from January 18 to 24, 2022. The application form was available from December 22 to January 11. The exam will be conducted on April 10, 2022, for a total of 341 vacancies. The admit card for the CDS I 2022 written exam is expected to be released in the second week of March.

What is CDS Exam?

Combined Defence Services Examination, commonly known as CDS, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The exam is held twice a year, usually in February and September. Every year, a large number of candidates appear for the national-level defence entrance examination. In 2020, a total of 2,343,43 candidates had applied for the exam, out of which 1,182,50 candidates had appeared. The selection of candidates is based on the written exam followed by SSB Interview for intelligence and personality test. Shortlisted candidates are placed at the following academies based on their preferences and merit.

CDS Admit Card 2022

CDS I admit card 2022 will be released online three weeks before the exam. The admit card will be released on the official website of UPSC for all the registered candidates. Candidates can access their admit cards by logging with either registration number or roll number.

CDS Exam Day Guidelines 

While appearing for the CDS exam, candidates need to follow the exam day guidelines given below:

  • Candidates should carry their admit cards along with one photo identity proof (original and photocopy) to the exam centre
  • Candidates are allowed to carry a clipboard or hardboard, black ball pen to the exam centre
  • Sheet for doing rough work is provided by the invigilator
  • Candidates should not bring books, notes, loose sheets, electronic or any other type of calculators, mathematical and drawing instruments, log tables, stencils, slide rules, test booklets and rough sheets
  • Mobiles, bluetooth, pagers, or any other communication devices are not allowed inside the premises of the exam centre

CDS 2022 Application Form

CDS I 2022 application form was released online. The application form could be filled in two parts: Part-I is registration, while Part-II is filling the detailed form. The application fees could be paid both online and offline. The application fees were INR 200 for General and OBC male candidates, while female, SC, ST candidates were exempted from fee payment.

CDS 2022 Notification

CDS I 2022 notification was released to select candidates for admission to IMA, INA, AFA, and OTA. The notification was released online on the official website of UPSC in PDF form. The notification comprised information regarding the exam, such as eligibility criteria, the application process, important dates, training process, salary, selection process, etc.

CDS (I) and (II) 2022 exam dates have been announced by UPSC. The dates pertaining to the release of notification, application form, exam, admit card, and result are given in the table below.

CDS Eligibility Criteria 2022

To be eligible for the exam, candidates need to fulfil the following CDS Eligibility Criteria:

Nationality: Candidates who have settled in India permanently can apply for CDS exam.

CDS 1: Age Limit, Sex and Marital Status

Candidates can check below the prescribed age limit for CDS 1 exam:

  • For Indian Military Academy (IMA), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2004, are eligible to apply
  • For Indian Naval Academy (IMA), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2004, are eligible to apply
  • Candidates applying for Air Force Academy should be between 20 to 24 years as on January 1, 2023. They must have been born not earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2003
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for men), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1998, and not later than January 1, 2004, are eligible to apply
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course), candidates should be unmarried and born not earlier than January 2, 1998, and not later than January 1, 2004

CDS 2: Age Limit, Sex, and Marital Status

CDS 2 age limit prescribed by UPSC for applying to the different academies is given below:

IMA: Candidates for IMA should be unmarried and must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1998, and not later than July 1, 2003.

INA: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 1998, and not later than July 1, 2003, can apply for INA.

AFA: To apply for AFA, the age of candidates should be between 20 and 24 years as on July 1, 2022. They must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1998, and not later than July 1, 2002. The upper age limit of candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed upto 26 yrs (i,e born not earlier than July 2, 1996, and not later than July 1, 2002).

OTA (SSC Course for men): To apply for the OTA course (SSC Men), candidates must be unmarried and must have born not earlier than July 2, 1997, and not later than July 1, 2003.

OTA (SSC Women Non-Technical Course): Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees who have not remarried are eligible to apply. They must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1987, and not later than July 1, 2003.

Educational Qualification

Candidates need to meet the following educational qualification for applying to CDS exam:

  • For IMA and Officers’ Training Academy, the required educational qualification is Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university
  • For Indian Naval Academy, candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognised university
  • For Air Force Academy, candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognised university. They must have studied Physics and Mathematics in Class 12

Note: Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester of Graduation can also apply provided they do not have any backlog upto the last year/semester for which results have been declared at the time of submitting the application form. They are required to submit proof of passing graduation at the time of the commencement of the course.

Physical Fitness

Candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per the guidelines prescribed by UPCS.

CDS Exam Syllabus 2022

CDS Syllabus comprises topics from English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The standard of Mathematics syllabus is of Class 10 standard, while for other subjects, it is of graduation level. Candidates can check the syllabus below.

CDS Exam Pattern 2022

CDS exam pattern 2022 is divided into a written exam and SSB Interview. The written exam for IMA, INA, and AFA comprises three sections: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The test paper for admission to OTA comprises two sections: English and General Knowledge. Each section is held for two hours. Total marks of the test for IMA, INA, and AFA are 300, while it is 200 for OTA. The SSB Interview for IMA, INA, AFA carries 300 marks each while it is 200 marks for OTA. The SSB Interview procedure consists of two stages: I and II. Stage I of SSB Interview comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT) and Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conference.

CDS 2022 Question Papers

CDS question papers 2022 question papers will be released a few days after the test is conducted. The question papers will be released in PDF form for all test booklets. Candidates can also raise objections against the question papers through Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep) within the prescribed deadline. 

CDS Answer Key 2022

CDS answer key 2022 is released online separately for Maths, GK and English. The answer keys are released for all sets of test booklets-A, B, C, and D. Using the answer keys, candidates can calculate their probable scores.

CDS Result 2022

CDS result is announced in two stages: written exam and final selection. The result for both stages is announced online on the official website in PDF form. The result displays the roll numbers of qualified candidates. It is necessary to secure qualifying marks in both the written exam and SSB Interview separately.

CDS Cutoff 2022

CDS cut off is released after the completion of the entire selection process. The cutoff for the written exam is calculated based on the minimum qualifying marks in each subject and minimum aggregate marks of the last qualified candidate. The final CDS cutoff is decided based on the marks of the last recommended candidate. The minimum qualifying for each subject is 20 per cent. A. To qualify for each paper of the CDS exam, candidates need to secure atleast 20 per cent. This means candidates need to secure 60 marks in each paper.

Q. Is NDA exam tough or CDS?

A. CDS is a bit easier to crack than the NDA exam. However, candidates can crack both the exams if they prepare well for it.

Q. Can I give CDS exam after Class 12?

A. No, candidates cannot apply for the CDS exam after Class 12. Those who have passed or are appearing in the final year/semester of graduation can only apply for the exam.

For CDS in IMA can I do B.Sc. with Maths?

The minimum qualification for CDS is graduation in any of the stream/course. Also, B.Sc. In Mathematics is completely theoretical, if you are thinking that what you'll study in graduation will help you in CDS examination, well this is not the case. The syllabus for both is completely different.

Yes it will work. The minimum education qualification required to appear for CDS is that a candidate must have passed Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised board. Candidates who are in final year of the qualifying exam are also eligible.
